Neli Minkova (BG)
Clinical Psychology, MSc.
or
Nedime Gökmen (TR)
I shall start by explaining why two completely different names are stated above for a one-person practice: I have double citizenship and different names on each passport.
I was born in Bulgaria in 1989. At that time, members of the Turkish minority were not permitted to have Turkish names, and I was therefore officially registered with a Bulgarian name: Neli Minkova. Later that same year, my family migrated to Istanbul, Turkey, where I was issued a Turkish passport under the name Nedime Gökmen.
I grew up in Istanbul, and Turkish is my mother tongue. Although I was born in Bulgaria, I unfortunately do not speak Bulgarian.
I completed my undergraduate degree in Psychology at Istanbul Bilgi University under my Turkish name, Nedime Gökmen. I then moved to the Netherlands to pursue a master’s degree in Clinical Psychology at Leiden University, where I studied under my Bulgarian name, Neli Minkova. Since then, the Netherlands has been my primary place of residence.
Currently, I work mainly online and divide my time between Amsterdam and İzmir.
